This story, from a time when anaesthesia was in its infancy, recounts the tale of a professor who has devised a method to keep people unconscious for precise periods of time: not just hours or day days, but possibly months or years. He has asked permission to test it on prisoners from Kilmainham Jail but been refused. he is close to despair, when young woman in s state of desperation turns up at his door...
